CSI Warm Food And Grocery Parcel Distribution

As a result of the Covid-19 lockdown many families and entire communities on the Cape Flats surrounding Kenilworth Centre lost their income and are dependent on NGO’s and organisations to provide them with food.

Focused on the wellbeing of our community, we have therefore coordinated a food donation drive appealing to our tenants, family, friends and networks to support our initiative to collect all types of food for distribution.

We received an amazing response, our collection included 93kg rice, 46kg canned vegetables, 7.5kg canned fish, 31kg maize meal, 5 kg dried food, 22kg fresh vegetables and other food products including long life milk, instant noodles, peanut butter, and cookies.

The estimates value for the donation exceeded R7 000.

We have used the donations sparingly and have assisted our vulnerable communities with the following:

  • With the support of a local neighbourhood watch in Greenhaven we cooked and distributed a 100L pot of wood fired Akni. 250 punnets of Akni were packed and distributed to Hanover Park Cottages, an old age home on the Cape Flats and to the community in Lavendar Hill.
  • Our team cooked rice and dahl curry. We distributed 100 punnets of warm food to the Lavender Hill Community.
  • We packed and donated 40 grocery parcels to Rise Against Hunger. They distributed the parcels to residents of the informal settlements in Schaapkraal and Cafda on the Cape Flats. These settlements house more than 200 families with no income.
  • Further, we have also donated 25kg rice to the Greenhaven community (Rate Payers Association) who distributed warm curry and rice in the informal settlement in Letaba, Manenberg.
  • We assisted artist Robin Pieters by sourcing and donating 80 loaves of fresh bread that was distributed in the local communities.2

Thank you to all the tenants and friends of Kenilworth Centre who generously contribute to our food distribution initiative.
